(ACAN) - High pressure die casting process for aluminium alloys
Description
The Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has a requirement to develop high pressure die casting process for aluminum alloys. The materials of interest include Al-Si and Al-Zn casting alloys. The requirement includes characterization and testing of cast alloys, and development of design rules for die casting process.
- Develop a solidification simulator, including experiments for validation using two aluminum alloys;
- Carry out pilot scale high pressure die casting experiments to validate findings, validation of Flow
3D models;
- Design, build and validate a modified desktop die tool, including design and experimental set-up;
- Design and construct and experimental die including thermocouples and pressure sensors;
- Conduct casting trials and develop an inverse heat transfer model and control system;
- Reports on all the above.
