Its mandate is to ensure that these systems serve the Canadian public. Among the responsibilities of the CRTC is to ensure that the Canadian communications system is accessible to all Canadians, including those with disabilities. Accordingly, some of the Commission’s activities and processes have particular relevance to Canadians who are deaf or hard of hearing who rely on sign language to communicate. In order to ensure these Canadians can fully participate in CRTC proceedings, access CRTC notice of consultations and decisions, and/or access information about CRTC activities, the CRTC commissions the production of videos in American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) to be posted on the CRTC’s Youtube channel.
